THE WORST GRASSY WEEDS IN CANOLA

Not only are they difficult to control, when left unchecked grassy weeds can devastate the yield potential of your canola. Among the most dangerous and damaging are Wild Oats, Barnyard Grass, and both Green and Yellow Foxtail. Fortunately, ARROW ALL IN effectively controls all of these and more.

IMPROVING GRASSY WEED CONTROL FOR INVIGOR/LIBERTY LINK

With experts estimating yield losses of up to 25% from green foxtail alone, you need grassy weed control you can rely on. So, if you love the yield of your InVigor canola, but just can’t seem to get ahead of the weeds, it’s time to consider tank-mix friendly, ARROW ALL IN the convenient solution for the most difficult grassy weeds in your canola.

GETTING CANOLA OFF TO THE BEST START

You just can’t over emphasize the importance of starting your season with a clean field and that’s exactly what EMPHASIS herbicide provides. Not only does it help to eliminate weed competitors before they become a problem, it also controls volunteer canola that can host dangerous insects and diseases that can infect your new canola crop. Additionally, it’s an effective resistance management tool with flexible recropping options.

PROACTIVE SCLEROTINIA PROTECTION

Sclerotinia can be devastating to canola yield performance with losses that range from 5 – 100%. What makes things even worse is that once you see the infection the damage has already been done. The solution: Proactively protect the profitability of your canola crop with SORATEL™ fungicide. Blended with Asorbital Formulation Technology for superior coverage and protection, SORATEL offers 5% higher efficacy than competitors.

TIPS FOR IMPROVING WEED CONTROL IN CANOLA

  1. Scout early and often. Stay on top of emerging weeds taking note of your worst competition
  2. Consider a pre-seed herbicide application like EMPHASIS to help your crop get ahead of weed competitors. Additionally, weeds are easier to control when they are young and actively growing.
  3. Rotation, rotation, rotation. Rotate herbicide groups and follow proper crop rotation guidelines. Rotating to crops that allow for a wider range of herbicide groups and have different seeding and harvest timing (winter cereals, for example) is a very effective weed management strategy.
  4. Consider weed resistance. If you see escapes. If weeds are growing through your herbicide applications (and you know you have made good contact), it may not be the herbicide’s fault. Have surviving weeds tested for resistance.
  5. Use tank mixes. Hitting weeds with multiple modes of action can help reduce the risk of herbicide resistant weeds. Find an effective grassy tank mix partner: If wild oats and other grassy weeds emerge before broadleaf weeds, it might be a good option to go in with a Group 1, then follow up later with glyphosate. With heavier grass populations, the mix of glyphosate with ARROW ALL IN is an excellent option.
  6. Use the right herbicide at the right rate and apply at the right time. Cutting rates, for example, may reduce herbicide efficacy and increase weed seed return to the soil seed bank.
  7. Get good coverage: Optimizing glyphosate (and other herbicides) effectiveness relies on getting good contact. Follow water volume recommendations, watch application speeds (<10kmph) and ensure spray nozzles are in good working order and that you are optimizing droplet size to avoid drift.
  8. Control weeds throughout the season to reduce the deposit of weed seeds in the soil bank.
  9. Employ other Integrated Weed Management practices so herbicides are not the only method of weed management used on the farm. These can include, perimeter management, hand-pulling, and others.
